It is wise to come to the salon with a clean/dry head of hair. Color tends to take better on clean hair. The only exception to this rule is for bleaching on the scalp in which it is good to come in with hair that isn’t already shampooed. This will create a barrier for the scalp creating a safer lightening process. However, don’t fret if you have already washed your hair. Bee Sam has plenty of solutions around the salon which will accommodate each and every process.
Yes, Bee Sam has salon gift certificates available for purchase in any amount. Gift certificates are available through Bee Sam at the salon.
Getting your hair cut or trimmed at the salon regularly can make your hair both strong and healthy. How often to get it cut depends on our hair type and hairstyle. Generally, every 6-10 weeks for most hairstyles is a good routine. For long hair every 8-12 weeks may work best. To get a better indication please visit Bee Sam for a consultation so she can work out a regime that suits your hair the best.

It is encouraged during consultation with your stylist to share an inspirational picture of a cut, style or color that you are aiming for. Most professional stylists will emphasize during the consultation that the photo is an “inspirational” one and that salon results may differ.

As a disclaimer, some photos found on social media sites may have been edited in some way. Aiming towards a computer generated result is an unrealistic expectation to have. Also, one should consider where their current hair color is at and how far it will take to get to the desired look. With that said, having an inspirational photo is a good idea and can be helpful to the stylist for guiding you towards the look you want.

Hair Color Questions

Any service that involves two or more processes on the hair with a noticeable difference in appearance is considered corrective color. Corrective color can involve multiple appointments, but sometimes can be done in as little as one appointment. The most important factor to remember when undergoing corrective color is the integrity of your hair. During your consultation, Bee Sam will advise you on the best route in order to avoid over-processed hair.

Also referred to as hair color correction, corrective hair color and color correction hair. Learn more about this color saving technique by visiting Bee Sam’s corrective color Vancouver WA page.

Since fashion colors are temporary even the best hairdresser will caution you that they will fade from the very first shampoo. Fashion colors are more vibrant on lighter shades of hair.  To maintain your fashion color longer; wash your hair in very cold water, use sulfate free shampoo and wash your hair less. Also avoid very direct sunlight. If you are going to go into a swimming pool make sure to apply a deep conditioner to wet hair before going in. I personally use a swimming/shower cap.

Many clients at the salon request silver or an ash blonde colored hair. Depending on where your hair is currently at, getting to silver or metallic colored hair can take a major salon commitment. First, the colorist will have to remove your hair of all of its pigment. This means your hair will have to get to platinum blonde before the silver or ash toner can be applied effectively. If your hair is currently brunette or black, it might take multiple salon visits to get there. On the other hand, if your hair is currently blonde, it will generally take less time. The cost for silver hair varies because everyone’s hair is a different distance from platinum blonde. For a cost estimate, please contact Bee Sam and schedule a FREE consultation.

Many clients at the salon request pastel colored hair. Chalky fashion colors or pastels such as light blue (sky), light pink (cotton candy) and light purple (lavender or lilac) make for a stunning look. Depending on where your hair is currently at, getting to pastel colored hair is an undertaking. First, the colorist will have to remove your hair of all of its pigment. This means your hair will have to get to platinum blonde before the pastel fashion color can be applied effectively. If your hair is currently brunette, red or black, it might take multiple salon visits to get there. On the other hand, if your hair is currently blonde, it will generally take less time. The cost for pastel colored hair varies because everyone’s hair is a different distance from platinum blonde which is the blank canvas before we can apply the pastel fashion color. There are a few ways one can slow down color fade after a salon visit.

  1. Avoid washing hair with hot water. Washing your hair with cold water will slow the color fade in your newly colored hair.
  2. Avoid overuse of curling irons, flat-irons and blow-dryers. The heat put off by these tools will fade the color.
  3. Wear a swimming cap if you plan to go swimming to protect your hair from color fading chlorine and/or salt.
  4. Avoid a lot of direct sunlight on the hair. UV exposure will speed up color fade. If you are going to be outside make sure to cover the hair with something like a hat.
  5. Use color safe shampoo and conditioners.
The Pinwheel technique is a form of coloring and/or highlighting where hair is sectioned off from the center of the scalp. Colors are then applied to each section. Combining two or more colors can create a unique visual. Alternating and ordering the colors also adds to the effect.

Ombre Hair Questions

An ombre is a hair style transitioning 2 colors. The word ombre means “shaded” in French. In this style one color gradually blends to the other creating a shaded/faded effect.  An ombre in its most classical sense will be dark at the roots, blending to a lighter shade as it gets to the ends.  In other variations or the look, dark is blended to light (reverse ombre), or fashion colors are melted into one another.
Selecting or matching ombre colors is all about personal preference and the look you want to project. From the subtle to the dramatic, there is an ombre color combination for everyone. Some clients opt for more natural ombre colors (e.g. blonde ombre, brunette ombre or red ombre), while others choose to go with fashion colors for an ombre that blends the unexpected. Keep in mind the farther away you are in your current hair from the colors that you want, the more salon time it will take to get there. A thorough consultation with a colorist is recommended before undergoing an ombre. Check out Bee Sam’s ombre page that showcases several different variations of the look.
The ombre is a versatile style. Ombres work on a variety of hair textures including curly, layered and straight hair. If your hair is naturally curly then you are a good candidate for an ombre. If you have straight hair then curls can be applied with a curling iron to complete the curly hair ombre look that is drop-dead gorgeous.
An ombre on dark or black hair can create a dramatic look. Since black is the darkest shade, fading it to lighter shades or colors lends its self to creative possibilities.  Popular fades from black include brunette, blonde and fashion colors such as red, purple or blue. Keep in mind the farther you are in your current hair color from the desired color, the longer it will take to get there at the salon.
Although ombres are widely showcased on longer hair styles they can also look good on shorter hair. Shoulder length hair, bobs and A-lines all make great canvasses for an ombre. The hair just needs to be long enough to demonstrate the effect of the colors showcased in the ombre. Also, it is worth noting that an ombre can also work on a variety of hair textures including curly, layered and straight hair.

Blonde, Bleaching and Toning Questions

My professional advice is to not perm previously bleached hair unless it is very minimal bleaching or highlights. Even with the best of products your hair would be at risk of being compromised.

Platinum blonde is the whitest of the blondes. If you hair is healthy and not over-processed you may be a good candidate to go to platinum. Going to platinum blonde can be a journey over multiple sessions at the salon depending on where you hair currently is at. With extreme care and Olaplex results are much more attainable.

Selecting the right shade or tone of blonde is an important decision. Really, it comes down to having a thorough consultation with your hairdresser and discussing your desired look. Some factors to consider when selecting a shade of blonde include current hair color, skin tone and maintenance regime. A good hairdresser will also look at the current condition of your hair. If you have damaged hair you might not be a good candidate to go blonde. Getting to your desired blonde shade or tone is a journey and may take several salon visits to get there. For blonde inspiration please check out Bee Sam’s blonde hair page.

Chemical Services Questions

My professional advice is to not perm previously bleached hair unless it is very minimal bleaching or highlights. Even with the best of products your hair would be at risk of being compromised.
There are many issues that can cause frizzy hair. Remedies for frizzy hair range from conditioning treatments to a light trim. A quality stylist can also recommend a good finishing product to eliminate hair frizz during your morning routine. Another option is to undergo a smoothing treatment. Smoothing treatments are designed to tame the frizz and smooth the hair out. Bee Sam offers smoothing treatments that are formaldehyde free and that can last up to 3-months. Contact Bee Sam to see if a smoothing treatment is right for you.

Questions About Hair Extensions

Yes, Bee Sam currently offers tape-in method hair extensions. Bee Sam also offers customized fashion color side panels which give clients that pop of color without the hair coloring commitment. It is a wonderful way to experience fashion colors.
As the name suggests tape-in extensions are taped-in. A stylist will take a hair extension track and tape them in between your own hair using a special double-sided tape. Tape-in hair extensions look natural, are lightweight, and lay flat.
If you really take care of your tape-in hair extensions they can realistically last you up to 6-months. With grow-out, you will need to have the extensions re-positioned and applied every 4-8 weeks. This is part of the maintenance. Here are some care tips to follow to get the most life out of your extensions:

  • Do not use a flat iron directly on the tape tabs. This will weaken the bond and they will slip out.
  • Use high-quality hair care products, but don’t overuse them either. Too much hair product can cause build up and tangling over time.
  • Never use any products containing oil, alcohol or ethanol as this can damage the hair extensions and also wear down on the adhesive.
Your hair should be about 6-7 inches in length for the extensions to blend naturally.
The time to put tape-in hair extensions is dependent on how much hair is being placed in. A side panel may take as little as 15 minutes to put in where a full set of hair could take several hours.
